At gengive håb, intentioner og løfter

Når vi gengiver en intention, et håb eller et løfte, bruger vi et passende udsagnsord efterfulgt af en 'that'-sætning med 'would' eller en sætning med to+navnemåde. Udsagnsord brugt i dette mønster omfatter: hope, promise, threaten, guarantee, & swear. Bemærk, at ordet 'that' er valgfrit, når man bruger en that-sætning, som i det første eksempel herunder.

"Give me the keys to the safe or I'll shoot you!" he shouted.	He threatened to shoot me if I didn't give him the keys to the safe. ELLER He threatened that he would shoot me if I didn't give him the keys to the safe.
"I will not tell anyone your secret" he said.	He swore that he would not tell anyone my secret. ELLER He swore not to tell anyone my secret.
