Quito defineres af sine spektakulære omgivelser, men byen kan andet end at se godt ud. Arkitekturen i den gamle del af byen er verdenskendt, og Quitos kulturblanding er blandt de rigeste i hele Sydamerika. Sightseeing og kultur

Gå en tur i de smalle gader, på de livlige pladser og i de storslåede katedraler i den gamle bydel fra kolonitiden. Gå en tur rundt om den hvidkalkede facade af San Francisco-klosteret, Ecuadors største bygning fra kolonitiden. Prøv at smage den traditionelle mad på en café i Guapulo-kvarteret, og stå med et ben på hver sin halvkugle ved Mitad del Mundo-monumentet, som markerer ækvator. Og nyd byens mest spektakulære udsigt fra Teleferico, verdens næsthøjeste tovbane.

Shopping

Det er et must at besøge Otavalo Market, Sydamerikas største marked for kunsthåndværk. Der er ikke noget bedre sted end Quito, hvis du vil møde Ecuadors levende indfødte befolkning. Sport og friluftsliv

største bypark. Tag på vandretur i Quitos frodige bjerge. Plask dig vej ned ad Quijos River på en whitewater-rafting-tur. Hep på et af byens seks professionelle fodboldhold, eller oplev den farverige årlige tyrefægterfestival.

Ekskursioner

Tag ud at snorkle med de nysgerrige søløver, og sejl ud til de legesyge delfiner i kajak på en tur til Galapagosøerne. Tag på vandretur op af den snedækkede og rygende Cotopaxi, verdens højeste aktive vulkan. Tag på vandretur dybt inde i regnskoven i Cuyabeno National Park, og oplev Ecuadors surferkultur på Montañita-stranden.

Underholdning og natteliv

Top matadores (bullfighters) from Peru, Latin America and Spain compete in the annual Quito Bullfighting Fair in the Plaza de Toros bullring. The matador, picadors and other figures inside the bullring all wear elegant finery from the sport's golden age.
